Apr 25, 2017 | Frédérique LemonnierHe was there for the first Google demonstration by Brin and Page
We met with Serge Abiteboul, a French researcher and computer scientist at INRIA (French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation) and ENS, ex-holder of the Chair of IT and Digital Science at the Collège de France, who recently co-authored the books Le temps des algorithmes (“The age of algorithms”) with Gilles Dowek, and Terra Data with Valérie Peugeot. His unusual background and history blew us away. Serge Abiteboul experienced the Stanford of Larry Page and Sergey Brin in the late 1990s. In this interview, he tells us about that time and the “thought revolution” that enabled the appearance of algorithms. A revolution we both love and fear and that is not done developing and surprising us.
